A Conversation about our Vision
Intimacy with God through intimacy with each other -this idea guides everything we do. Because of that we want to help believers live as family on mission for depth through the gospel.
We believe in intimacy with God through intimacy with one another. Because of that we want to help believers live in authentic biblical community everyday of their week. This happens when Christians do life together, when they participate in family rhythms with each other. It is very difficult to have intimate family relationships if you simply sit and watch a sermon together or sing songs together on Sunday mornings. Families pray and study the Bible together. They also play together, eat together, and even struggle together. This belief is revealed in our strategy: to help believers live as family on mission for depth in the gospel. This comes to life when believers gather together and commit to live in family rhythms. To help people discover these types of relationships, rhythms, and intimacy, we at Restoration Church strive to do three things well. 1) Worship and suffer together on Sunday mornings. 2) Garther in groups of 4-6 to pursue intentional and purposeful relationships, and 3) We connect people of common interest in missional communities and help them serve their neighbors and spread the Gospel.
As we see people desperate for the hope and restoration of the gospel of Jesus, we are burdened to engage them on mission through intimate relationships. Mission for us is not the calling of a few but of every believer. Every Christian is called to live on mission, every day through the relationships God places in front of them. At Restoration we do this through Missional Communities. As we live together in family rhythms in these groups, we look for ways to engage those without Christ right where they are. We throw parties. We serve them -anything to show our love and become friends. As we build those connections, we invite our new friends into the family rhythms of our group looking for opportunities to show and share the gospel and ultimately to help them begin building depth as a follower of Jesus. Many of these groups are built around common passions which those in the group share. From serving college students to ministering to the poor and marginalized in Durham/Chapel Hill, we have a place for you.
Depth means intimacy with God and that is the point of everything we do. It also means that this depth happens best by being connected with other believers in authentic and vulnerable relationships. Sermons are important. Worship is important. But, as Jesus modeled, it's within the context of intimate relationships that true depth is developed. Because of this we want every believer engaged in a DEPTH GROUP where they live out the qualities of biblical community described in James 5. There we see that believers should PRAY together, SERVE each other, SPEAK TRUTH to each other, and CONFESS SIN to each other. We believe its within this context that disciples will be grown, encouraged, and matured as they walk with Jesus. As these groups grow in intimacy with one another, and as they live out the gospel together, an amazing intimacy with God will come to life.
